Scion

The now-defunct Scion brand was Toyota’s 13-year attempt at shaking up its sales model and bringing in younger buyers. Scion launched in 2003 with no-haggle pricing, and options were limited to dealer-installed accessories. Scion seemed to get a lot right at the start of its short life, especially with the boxy xB SUV which sold nearly 400,000 units. The curvier tC coupe sold in similar numbers. But Scion’s success didn’t last and after sales peaked in 2006, the brand’s popularity diminished annually until Toyota eventually pulled the plug after the 2016 model year.
