Sold from 1991 to 2010, Saturn was General Motors’s bid to take back market share lost to cheap, compact Japanese imports throughout the 1980s. Saturn made a strong first impression upon its debut thanks to no-haggle pricing and its compelling, subcompact SL sedan, which featured dent-resistant plastic body panels. The company went on to produce vehicles such as the Vue crossover, the Ion compact car, and the Sky roadster, but eventually succumbed to poor sales figures. The company was offered for sale as part of GM’s bankruptcy filings but fter a deal with the Penske Corporation fell through, the Saturn brand’s fate was sealed.
